My sister and Kathy and I arrived in Butlersbridge on Wednesday, January 16th. I was my first trip back since July 1979, and what a time we had. The day we arrived we stayed in the Bridge after a short nap - visited Aunt Margaret Heavin and walked down to the village with Dad and the famous "Doc". Later that evening we met with Mary O'Rourke and Cousin Gabrielle Fitzpatrick Cadden finally arrived and we went down to the Derragarra for a bite to eat. The following day we spent walking around Cavan town - shopping and naturally had to stop and eat at the Farnham. That evening we visited Uncle Pat Cahill, his son Martin and family, then stopped off to visit Molly and Kathleen O'Rourke to the wee hours. On Friday, we ventured off to Ballyhaise and visited our stepgrandmother Mary Cahill, Mrs. Brown and Mary McGerty, and the graves in Castletara.
After that we went back to the Bridge to cook up a big fry for Dad. That evening we met the Cahills in Cavan and had a great time at the White Star. Saturday we headed up to visit the graves in Annah and the Bridge then shopping (again) in Cavan. Saturday evening we met the McGowans (including Aunt Sadie) for a delicious meal at the Derragarra then a great sing-a-long at Con's, with the Duffy's - Kathleen doesn't miss a beat!!! Sunday we stopped down to see my brother-in-law's family - Mrs. McPhillips and her son Pauric then headed up to Belturbet to see the Sleve Russell hotel and then stopped at the Seven Horse shoes for dinner. We even squeezed in a trip to Linda Greenan's new home with her proud mom, and visited Uncle Pat Cahill and his wife Martha in Cavan. The time was short, but we had a great time, visiting family and friends - what laughs!!!!! I certainly will not wait another 28 years to visit. Barbara Meehan Looney
